Registrations open for 2026 Effective Mentoring Program in Victoria

Experienced early childhood teachers in Victoria can now register for the 2026 Effective Mentoring Program (EMP), a free professional learning initiative designed to equip teachers to mentor provisionally registered teachers (PRTs) on their journey to full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
The Effective Mentoring Program (EMP) strengthens the mentoring knowledge and skills of experienced, registered teachers, enabling them to guide graduate and returning teachers toward full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Participants also become eligible to serve as the VIT-trained representative on workplace recommendation panels.
About the program
The two-day program will be delivered in person from Term 1 to Term 3, 2026, at locations across Victoria. A limited number of online seminars will be available for participants unable to attend face-to-face sessions.
The program is offered at no cost to early childhood services or individual participants.
Approved providers of Victorian state-funded kindergarten services may be eligible to claim a backfill contribution of up to two days for early childhood teachers participating in the EMP.
The EMP is delivered in partnership between the Department of Education and the VIT.
Refresher program
Experienced mentor teachers who have previously completed the program are eligible to attend a one-day refresher session to update their knowledge and skills in line with changes to registration requirements or mentoring practice.
